What is ECE?

Dr.Sridhar: Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) which is one of the prominent branches of engineering. It deals with electronic circuits and communication systems. It helps to increase productivity in various industries such as telecommunication media including television, radio and computers.


:What is the difference between ECE and EEE?

Dr.Sridhar:ECE students study subjects related to Electronics (Ex: electronic devices, Digital electronics and DSP) and Communications (Ex:  Radar engineering, Mobile communications)

Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE) deals with Electrical (Ex: Electrical Machines, Control systems) and 40% of the syllabus is common to ECE & EEE

:What knowledge should students have before joining ECE?

Dr.Sridhar:

Physics: Electricity & Semiconductor physics

Maths: Calculus, vector algebra, vector calculus, Probability

Chemistry: Properties of elements like Si & Ge

:Which is the best institute to pursue ECE?

 Dr.Sridhar:

  1. IISc
  2. IIT’s
  3. NIT’s (some)
  4. IIIT’s (some)
  5. State Universities
  6. Deemed Universities
  7. Autonomous Institutions

:Will I get jobs with just engineering degree in ECE?

Dr.Sridhar:Yes (having equal opportunities with CSE students) undoubtedly you can succeed by doing hard work.

:Is it compulsory that one should do M .Tech to get a better placement?

          Dr.Sridhar:No

:After joining ECE will I have chance to learn computer courses.

          Dr.Sridhar: Yes. You can learn during your study.

:What type of computer courses one should learn while doing B Tech in ECE?

          Dr.Sridhar:   C, C++, Java, Python languages

:What are different career options after ECE?

Dr.Sridhar:

  1.  Jobs
  2. Higher studies

:What are areas in which students can expect jobs after ECE?

Dr.Sridhar:

  1.  Software field
  2. Core areas like Signal processing, VLSI etc

               

:What are the advantages of studying ECE?

Dr.Sridhar: You can choose more number of career opportunities

:What are the engineering entrance exams for ECE

Dr.Sridhar:

1. JEE mains

2. JEE advance

3. BITSAT

4 EAMCET (AP, TS)

5. Deemed University entrance exams (VIT, SRM, KLU, GITAM etc)

:Job Roles for an Electronics Engineer - both in Government and private sectors.

Dr.Sridhar:

  1. Govt. Sector: As an Engineer in Railways, Airlines, MES (through IES exam)
  2. As a Scientist in Defense organizations like ISRO, DRDO &    DRL (Defense Ministry recruitment)
  3. As a Section Engineer in Railways (through RRB)
  4. Public Sector: As Trainee Engineer in NTPC, BARC, HAL (through GATE score)
  5. As Trainee Engineer in Steel Plants (through RINL & SAIL exams)
  6. Private Sector: As Software Engineer Trainee in IT MNC’s like Infosys, IBM, and TCS
  7. As Trainee Engineer in core MNC’s like Intel Corporation, Qualcom, Texas Instruments.
  8. Many sectors like steel, petroleum and chemical industries, health care industry, and transportation industry need engineering graduates from ECE.

Dr. G. V. Sridhar is working as Professor in ECE Department and Additional Controller of Examinations, Raghu Engineering College (Autonomous), Vizag, A.P. He published 20 articles in various reputed national/international journals and conferences. He is Student Branch Counselor, IEEE Students Chapter. His research interests include Bio-Medical Signal processing, Prosthetic Devices, Medical Electronics. He did Chair and Co-Chair in ICMEET and ICMSEA. He was appointed as subject expert for LICA, LDICA, Cellular Mobile Communications, Radar Engineering and Bio-Medical Engineering by JNTU(K).
